Sunday Morning

You may be thinking that all I do on the weekends is make things for breakfast.

That's SO not true.
Well...

Let's take a step back for a minute and look at the bigger picture.

I happen to have one of those jobs that prevents me from being home during the most gorgeous hours of natural sunlight, the kind of light that makes you sing with geeky, photo-journalism glee. You know what I'm talking about, right?

So when I am home, and the light out there is just right, I can't help but take a picture or two of what's been going on in this tiny yellow kitchen of mine-- and that's usually during the weekend.
During those sweet, Sunday morning hours that you wish would go on forever, with endless pots of coffee, and warm, fuzzy socks.

Sunday morning means time for me and T.

So I bake.
I bake because when I am wrist deep in flour, sugar, and eggs, I can't really think about anything else. And if I do, well...

Sugar burns.

Instead, I think about the people I am cooking for.
And about how darn yummy it's all going to be when it comes out of the oven.

I think about things that make me happy, things I've been wanting to think about for a while, but have been too busy to spend time on. When I bake, I plan my future life.

Really.
And when it all comes out of the oven, and the whole house smells like vanilla, hope, and cinnamon, I know it's going to be a good day.

With too much coffee, a messy yellow kitchen, and sugar that hasn't been burnt.

  5. @Nicole- Mornings can be such a time peaceful time to collect thoughts for the day- it's my favorite time.

@Tracy- Thanks :) There's something about Sundays that makes the world go just a little bit slower. It's a nice reset for the week.

@Emily Vanessa- Your photos of early mornings in Berlin make me want to get on a plane and experience it for myself. Someday!

@Denise- I'm sad to hear that things have felt heavy for you. It's frustrating to feel that way. I'm glad you were able to get a fresh breath from the post, I do the same thing when I feel overwhelmed- find something nice to read, a quiet space, and try to reset my mind.

  6. Who has the time to bake breakfast things - or eat breakfast, in my case - except for weekends? I often bake things the night before I can photograph them (hence you have a lot of cake slices rather than whole cakes pictured on my blog)...
I hope you have another lovely weekend, and a lazy Sunday of baking and sipping coffee and warm fuzzy socks :)
